Holiday Rush!!!

Here is what it looks like when holidays are coming and hundreds (or thousands?) of Cagayanos want to spend  some time with their families at home.

I got into the bus at around 10:30 in the evening and I noticed that the number of passengers waiting for bus rides were somewhat unchanged since I arrived two hours earlier. Even with buses arriving every fifteen minutes, it seems that there still weren't enough to accommodate every one. Hopefully, in the next few years, more transport companies would venture into the Manila - Tuguegarao route. That way, passengers won't have to wait for long hours before getting a bus or to sit uncomfortably or inconveniently on chairs placed on the center isles.

Those highlighted in green are the urban barangays.

As of August 2007, 28 out of the 49 barangays of Tuguegarao or a little more than 57% are considered urban. Urban barangays are those communities which meet the following criteria:

  1. Population of 5,000 or more; or
  2. Presence of at least 1 medium or large establishment; or
  3. Presence of 5 or more small establishments and 5 or more facilities
Where:
  • Small Establishments - 10 - 99 employees
  • Medium Establishments - 100 - 199 employees
  • Large Establishments - 200 and more employees
  • Facilities pertain to government establishments e.g. barangay halls, health centers, daycare centers, etc.
The above criteria was first applied during the year 2007. An updated list of urban barangays for 2010 is yet to be published.

In my opinion, the number of urban barangays in Tuguegarao will increase over the next few years due to the robust growth in its economy. More and more people are visiting the city and some are even deciding to reside permanently in the city because of the presence of high quality institutions offering services like government, health and education. Moreover, the commercial area of Tuguegarao has expanded tremendously. A manifestation to this is the increase in the number of urban barangays in the city from just 12 before to 26 as of 2007. The composition of this commercial area has also grown. Local businesses have stretched their presence in the city with more branch openings while nationally popular entities have come to offer the people with their products and services. If Tuguegarao could sustain the pace of economic growth it has today over the future years, it wouldn't be far before it becomes a highly urbanized city.

EastWest Bank soon to open in Tuguegarao!

EastWest Bank, one of the fastest growing financial institution in the country, shall soon be rendering its service to the citizens of Tuguegarao. EastWest Bank, which is a subsidiary of one of the country's largest business conglomerates, FilInvest Development Corporation, currently has 117 branches all over the country, almost two thirds of which is in Metro Manila. EastWest Bank shall be having its bank in Tuguegarao in front of the BPI College Avenue Branch and Mang Domeng's Tapsilogan.

Here are more information regarding East West Bank:

EastWest Bank is a subsidiary of the Filinvest Development Corporation (FDC), the publicly listed holding company of the Filinvest Group that evolved from a consumer business founded by Andrew L. Gotianun, Sr. in 1955. FDC is one of the country's premier conglomerates, with business interests in real estate development, financial and banking services and the sugar business. Through the years, EastWest Bank has successfully capitalized on the financial strength and synergy from the business organizations under the Filinvest Group.

Since its official birth on July 6, 1994, EastWest Bank has emerged as one of the country's fastest growing banks.

Shortly after it formally opened its doors to the public, EastWest Bank had envisioned itself to become the preferred consumer bank of professionals, entrepreneurs, overseas Filipino workers, and homeowners. To this end, the Bank embarked on an automation program, and began to upgrade its existing technology.
